Project Achievements: October 2024 - January 2025
Despite financial constraints, our efforts to recycle plastic waste and create economic opportunities for youth and women have remained steadfast. Here are the key accomplishments:
- Plastic Waste Collection: Our collection centers gathered approximately 2174kilograms of plastic waste during this period, ensuring that waste is repurposed and kept out of the environment.
- Community Engagement: We continued to mobilize and educate youth and women on the importance of recycling, increasing participation and awareness in targeted regions.
- Recycling Partnerships: We maintained our collaboration with recycling industries that process collected plastic waste into useful products like plumbing pipes for water supply and wastewater systems.
- Youth Employment: Many young youth continue to benefit from this initiative, earning income through waste collection and sales, thus improving their livelihoods.
Challenges Faced
While the project has made commendable progress, we have encountered significant challenges that have hindered our ability to operate effectively:
- Closure of Some Collection Centers: Due to financial constraints, some of our waste collection centers have been temporarily closed. The lack of funds has made it difficult to pay for rental spaces, acquire licenses, and purchase necessary equipment.
- Lack of Registration and Licensing Fees: We are facing delays in formalizing our operations due to insufficient funds to register business names, acquire TIN numbers, and obtain necessary licenses.
- Inadequate Working Tools: The lack of gloves, weighing scales, and collection bags has limited our efficiency in waste collection and processing.
- High Operational Costs: Transportation expenses and human resource costs remain a major challenge in sustaining daily operations.
Solutions and Urgent Support Needed
To overcome these challenges and continue our mission effectively, we are actively seeking additional financial support. Donations will help us:
- Reopen closed collection centers and establish additional centers to reach our initial target of ten.
- Pay for necessary registrations and licenses to formalize our operations.
- Acquire essential working tools such as gloves, scales, and collection bags to enhance efficiency.
- Cover rental costs and transportation expenses to ensure smooth project implementation.
Goals for the Next Quarter
- Expand Collection Centers: Reopen closed centers and establish four additional centers to reach a total of ten.
- Increase Youth and Women Participation: Strengthen community engagement to involve more youth and women in plastic waste recycling.
- Enhance Recycling Partnerships: Work with more recycling industries to secure sustainable contracts and expand market opportunities for recycled materials.
- Improve Awareness Campaigns: Conduct more training sessions and community sensitization programs to encourage responsible waste management practices.
