Report:
Introduction
In the first few months of 2024, VUSA has continued its mission to empower children in the Langa community through sports and education. Building upon our previous successes, we are pleased to report significant growth and the introduction of new programs aimed at further enriching the lives of the children we serve.
Program Expansion and Impact
VUSA has grown exponentially, now supporting over 1300 children in the Langa community. Our Atlas Digibus program, introduced in 2022, has been instrumental in reaching out to more children, supporting Grade 4 learners with the transition from Mother Tongue to English as well as coding programmes for Grade 5 learners.
Recent Initiatives and Achievements
The pre-season commenced with a small tournament, marking the return of children to the field. This year, we welcomed a new cohort of Under 9s, and on the Digibus, our Grade 4 students eagerly embraced the opportunity they had been anticipating since Grade 2.
We are proud to announce our partnership with Likhwezi Educare, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) center founded by a passionate mother committed to ensuring every child receives quality education. VUSA's involvement will focus on introducing English, numeracy, and literacy through playful learning methods and our mobile library project.
Furthermore, our after-school programs have evolved to include coding sessions for U12 and U13 players, along with a Young Entrepreneurs Program building upon the success of last year's Capitec / Market Day initiative. This year-long course equips children with essential skills in marketing strategies, financial planning, advertising, product development, and culminates in a market day event.
Innovations and Incentives
To foster a culture of positivity and achievement, we have introduced the VUSA shop where children earn reward tokens for punctuality, academic achievements, good behavior, and acts of kindness. These tokens can be accumulated for significant rewards or used for immediate gratification teaching children about financial management.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, we aspire to introduce a swimming program to further broaden the horizons of the children we serve. Additionally, we have been invited to participate in the Independent Schools Rugby Festival in the Eastern Cape in JUne, providing our Under 13 children with an unforgettable experience.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the first quarter of 2024 has been marked by significant progress and expansion for VUSA. We are immensely grateful for the continued generosity and support that enables us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of over 1300 children in the Langa community. Thank you once again for your unwavering support.
Kind regards
