This report highlights our experiences in the past quarter supporting girls at risk of FGM.
We created access to menstrual health care essentials through our walk in menstrual care bank distributing more than 55 boxes of sanitary towels to girls both in school and out of school and distributed information on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights which is important for menstrual hygiene management, awareness on menstrual hygiene management contributed to building an enabling environment of non-discrimination and gender equality of which girls voices are heard.
We also carried out girls’ safe spaces/mentorship sessions which facilitate interactive and informative sessions for girls about the consequences of Female Genital Mutilation while equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to make informed decisions through fostering a deeper understanding. The safe spaces make it possible for girls to freely share their concerns on issues affecting them, acquire life skills education to navigate the transition from childhood to adolescent.
Training of mothers and caregivers on economic development;we trained the women on the following topics women’s roles in savings and loan programs, time management, task sharing, decision making, leadership and business skills as a result of the training we have seen women investing in children’s health, nutrition and education and challenging harmful social norms such as Female Genital Mutilation in their communities.
We are so grateful for GlobalGiving Platform that has continued to enable us support girls at risk in Kuria.
