Transforming Open Fields into Sanctuaries of Daily Growth

In rural Cambodia, the right to play is a powerful gateway to a healthier and more dignified life. For thousands of children across Siem Reap province, daily routines are frequently shaped by exhausting agricultural labor under a scorching sun or the isolation brought by seasonal rains. In standard rural settings, structured physical education and safe recreational spaces remain rare opportunities.

Throughout the second quarter of 2026, the Globalteer Sports Programme consolidated its daily presence across the Doun Kaev commune. Following the completion of our primary infrastructure earlier this year, our focus shifted entirely to maximizing regular, high-impact programming. Today, our team of seven certified local coaches works across seven partner primary schools, ensuring that over 2,000 rural children access quality sports training, life-skills mentorship, and health support every week.

Quarterly Impact at a Glance (April – June 2026)

  • Regular Youth Participants: Over 2,000 children actively engaged in weekly sports sessions across the commune.

  • Partner Primary Schools: 7 rural community schools integrated into our regular training schedule.

  • Coaching Staff: 7 dedicated local coaches delivering continuous training and life-skills education.

  • Active Facility: 15,000 m² multi-sport complex in full daily operation for training and inter-school matches.

  • Expanded Mobility Fleet: 2 newly acquired electric motorbikes deployed for community outreach, alongside our operational Toyota Coaster minibus.

  • Healthcare Integration Kickoff: Initial distribution of essential vitamins and site planning for clean water filtration systems.

Key Highlights and Program Development

1. Full Operation of the 15,000 m² Sports Complex

Following its formal launch at the close of the previous quarter, our massive 15,000 square meter sports complex entered full, daily community operation throughout April, May, and June. What was once mud-filled rice land has now become the vibrant center of youth activity in the district.

Throughout the week, children from our partner schools make full use of the regulation-size football pitch, outdoor basketball courts, and structured running lanes. The availability of professional-grade surfaces has allowed our coaches to implement progressive training plans, teaching technical fundamentals, agility, and teamwork in an environment where children feel secure, valued, and motivated.

2. Championing Gender Equality and Girls’ Leadership on the Pitch

Equal access to sports remains a cornerstone of our daily coaching pedagogy. In rural communities where traditional expectations often sideline girls from athletic pursuits, our sessions ensure that female students participate on completely equal footing.

During our weekly practices and friendly inter-school scrimmages, coaches deliberately rotate leadership roles, encouraging girls to serve as team captains, strategists, and peer mentors. By fostering mixed-gender sports drills and celebrating girls' athletic achievements in front of teachers and peers, the programme continues to dismantle persistent gender stereotypes and empowers young women to play, compete, and lead freely in their communities.

3. Laying the Groundwork for Health: The Randal Foundation Partnership

Physical development and athletic performance cannot be separated from fundamental healthcare and nutrition. Following the confirmation of grant funding from The Randal Foundation at the end of May, our team utilized June to coordinate and execute the initial phase of our expanded wellness initiative:

  • Targeted Nutritional Relief: We launched the preliminary distribution of essential daily vitamin supplements to strengthen the immune systems and stamina of our student athletes.

  • Potable Water Security: Technical assessments and procurement preparations began for installing high capacity, advanced water filtration units across the facilities to safeguard children against waterborne illnesses.

These introductory steps establish the operational baseline for broader health interventions, including routine mobile nurse screenings and community hygiene workshops, as the grant activities scale up in the coming months.

4. Electric Motorbikes and Safe Transit

Safe transportation remains essential for maintaining regular attendance across scattered rural villages. While our Toyota Coaster minibus continues to provide reliable, secure transit along rural roads for student cohorts attending training at the central sports complex, we reinforced our logistics this quarter by purchasing two electric motorbikes.

These eco-friendly motorbikes will provide vital, low-cost mobility for our field team:

  • Enabling our social worker to carry out home visits, family check-ins, and student welfare monitoring across narrow rural tracks.

  • Providing swift, flexible transit for medical personnel conducting decentralized school visits and health screenings across the commune.
