Introduction:
Buhknom Development Foundation is pleased to report on the progress of our EmpowerHer project, which aims to economically empower 100 widows in Nigeria. With the generous support of our donors, we have made significant strides in achieving our goal.
*Project Activities:*
- *Seed Funding:* We provided 30 widows with a grant of 30,000 (approximately $30 USD) to launch or grow their small businesses.
- *Entrepreneurship Training:* Our hands-on training sessions equipped widows with the knowledge and skills needed to run successful businesses.
- *Mentorship Program:* Each participant was paired with a mentor for guidance and ongoing support.
- *Monthly Savings Plan:* We introduced a monthly savings plan to encourage financial discipline and create a pool of funds for future business expansion or emergencies.
Impact:
- *Economic Empowerment:* 30 widows now have sustainable income streams, improving their ability to care for their families.
- *Increased Confidence:* Many participants reported enhanced self-esteem and a sense of purpose after gaining financial independence.
- *Community Growth:* These businesses are creating ripple effects in the local economy, as widows now support local suppliers and serve as role models for other women.
- *Poverty Reduction:* The increased household income is helping families meet their daily needs, pay school fees, and access better healthcare.
Challenges:
- *Limited Funding:* Due to the partial funding of our original goal, we could only empower 30 widows instead of 100.
- *Scaling Impact:* Additional resources are needed to scale training and mentorship programs, as well as to expand seed funding for more participants.
Next Steps:
- *Expand Reach:* Empower 70 more widows once additional funds are raised.
- *Enhance Training:* Provide specialized vocational skills training to diversify income opportunities.
- *Strengthen Savings Scheme:* Formalize the group savings scheme to create a revolving fund, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Conclusion:
We are grateful to our donors for making this impact possible. Your generosity has transformed the lives of 30 widows and planted seeds of hope and resilience in their communities. We invite you to continue this journey with us. Together, we can empower 100 widows, break the cycle of poverty, and create a brighter future for families in Nigeria.
