Jaag Welfare Movement under the project of Empower 100 Child Brides in Pakistan made some strategic actions to combat or reduce the occurrence of Child Marriage events. During this quarter Project initiated the following Actions:-
1. Development of Course for Certification of Marriage Registrar
Jaag has developed a training course for One Day workshop for the marriage registrars. Successful participants will be awarded with certificate which will help the Marriage registrar to continue his services for registration. Lobbying with Local Government department is under process and will fruitful in shape of mendatory training for every Marriage registrar. In this course Form Filling and verification of Age will be focus. Most of the Marriage Registrars are religious leaders will be sensitized and get threat of being punished by prison of 6 Month and Pak Rs. 50,000/- fine.
2. Group Formation
10 Groups consist of 20 women and girls formed and activated for :-
Under the Group formation, 2nd Vocational Center was inaugurated done in a village. All the Girls and women were happy to be skilled at their door step. All women were agreed to work to end Violence against Women and Child Marriage. The Majority of women are very much poor and deprived. Abdul Rub Farooqi said on the occasion of Inauguration, "if women stand up then no one can made violence. So these groups will be skilled turn by turn. We have established a Marketing Channel and more than 200 Dresses are sold out and handsome labor provided them. These Groups are increasing and During the next quarter 10 more groups will be formed.
3. Saved “Nazia”(Not original Name) from to be victim of Child Marriage.
Nazia age 14 (according to School Registration Record) was married (Marriage Certificate completed before a month). Jaag came to know from a local CBO that on August 13, 2015 the marriage ceremony is scheduled in local hotel. Jaag Welfare Movement informed the Child Protection & Welfare Bureau . CPWB investigated and give application submitted to Police. Police called the family, Marriage Registrar and Groom for entering FIR(First Information Report). Father of Child Bride withdrawal from marriage and give oath on legal stamp paper that without having CNIC this marriage will not be complete and they will wait. Child Protection Unit will met with Child Brides to ask the status bi-annually.
