Grassroot Action can End Child Marriage, The Following video is an example to stop child Marriage. Local Group formation, sensitization of Education Department, vibrant and active role of Civil Society can be a milestone to minimize occurrence of Child Marriage. Under the Project of “Empower-100-child-brides-in-pakistan”, Jaag is doing some activities. Jaag is working at grassroot level to mobilize masses against Child Marriage, District Level to activate and support Child Protection Unit for the implementation of newly introduced Law on Child Marriage restraint act ammendment 2015, and Provincial Level to for Policy Change for ending age discrimination in Marriage restraint act 1929/ammendment 2015. Jaag organized a Seminar on Internatioal Women Day on the topic of "Child marriage is a violence, met with Child Protection Unit for referring cases of Child Marriage to take necessary action against such parents and tribal chief. While Jaag’s staff has attended policy level meetings for banning Child Marriage and increase the age from 16 to 18.
At Village level, Jaag focused on Chak # 229-P, where awareness raising meeting was held and 4 Egyptian Poultry Birds and feed was distributed among 16 Girls who are at risk of Child Marriage. An agreement signed by the mother of each Girl Child that they will not execute marriage before 18 Years. They will continue studies and all girls will pass secondary school certificate essentially. They all made written agreement that they will work as watch dog to monitor Child marriage and inform School Head Teacher and Jaag for stopping that illegal marriage.
Jaag Welfare Movement is on-airing the messages on FM Radio about this new Law which increases the penalty from 1000 to 50,000 and six Months Jail for both parents and Marriage Registrar. The Telephone Number 1121 of Child Protection Unit established by Child Protection & Welfare Bureau in Rahim Yar Khan is mentioned in the advertisement.
Ameena Bibi is now happy to continue her studies. She was not willing to marrying at early age. She is thanking you that your generous support provide her an opportunity to get education more. She said, "If Jaag did not came to our village to distribute hens for our nutrition, then I might be at my in-laws, and next year may be I have a baby like my mother was treated earlier"
She said, "If anybody pressurized me for marriage I will tell my teacher to stop my marriage ceremony."
Jaag has planned a Sensitization workshop with Marriage Registrar and Secretaries of Union Councils and spread this law which punishes Marriage Registrar but they are not aware of it. Jaag will continue support to these Girl Childs to boost their nutrition plan by providing local (Desi) Hens. These hens serving two purposes, 1 for livelihood and 2nd nutrition enrichment of these victim of Child Marriage (either Mother or Girl Child). By getting this gift, they are ready to accept our message to end Child Marriage.
