Job Training for 100 Girls in Sierra Leone Slums
The above project was designed to empower at least 100 vulnerable teenage girls most of whom would be marginalised single mothers struggling to feed and cloth themselves and their babies in the rundown urban slums of Freetown Sierra Leone.
They have dropped out of school and have been ostracized by their families. As a result they suffer multiple deprivation and discrimination, which leaves them more and more vulnerable and poorer.
Since the launching of the project, we have been engaging with trainers at the slums-based YDM Vocational Training Centre to design appropriate courses so that the teenage girls can gain marketable skills which they will use either for self-employment or to gain employment.
In addition we have conducted a survey to identify the beneficiaries that are most in need in the slums so that they will be among the first to be targeted when the project starts.
The local chief and community leaders are all excited about the proposed project and have already committed themselves to provide a free land space so that beneficiaries can carry-out practical vocational skills training.
However, the project "Job Training for 100 Girls in Sierra Leone Slums" has not yet started due to lack of funding. We took part in the campaign but we were unable to get any donors donating towards our cause.
We are therefore requesting our donors to generously contribute to this worthwhile project.
We hope that we will get donations through this website.
