Hidden Villa Summer Camp Scholarships 6/11 Update

By Marc Sidel | Associate Director of Development

Dear Supporters,

Hidden Villa’s campaign to provide Summer Camp Scholarships in 2011 is well under way  and we are getting closer to our ultimate goal of providing $160,000 of scholarship funds to campers who could otherwise not attend.  Here are some highlights:

  • Summer Camp registration is almost complete and we have 97% of our available camp spaced filled.
  • The Camp Counselor Leadership Team has just arrived at Hidden Villa and they are already hard at work, training to facilitate life-changing summer experiences for our youth.  The remainder of our camp counselors will join us for training next week.  Campers are scheduled to arrive on June 20th!
  • Hidden Villa has made substantial progress towards our 2011 target of providing $160,000 in camp scholarships to families in need.  So far, we have secured $125,000 towards our goal.  In total, Hidden Villa will need to secure $35,000 more to fully fund camp scholarships.
  • Originally, our goal was to raise $5,500 through this Global Giving campaign.  We are delighted to share with you, our supporters, that you've helped us substantially exceeded our goal.  The global Giving Campaign has now reached just over $11,000!  A majority of your generous donations came in during the March 16th matching campaign  offered by Global Giving and compounded by the Morgan Family Foundation match which was already in progress.  Many of you took advantage of both matches and turned every $1 you donated into $2.60!
  • We want to take this moment to celebrate what we've all accomplished together - $11,000 is enough to fund every scholarship in our Tipi Camp for two weeks or 10 campers participating in our intensive, 12-day Resident and Leadership Camps.  Thank you!
  • Due to the campaign's success, Global Giving is allowing us to increase the goal of our campaign, yet again. We sincerely hope that you can tweet, post, or blast your networks to share our success and let your friends, family, and co-workers know about the expanded opportunity to provide scholarships for Hidden Villa Summer Camp.

Based on the funds we’ve raised through Global Giving, Hidden Villa will now be able to offer a Tipi Camp Scholarship to a young gentleman named Sasha, whose hard-working family lives below the poverty line.  We received a note from Sasha's parents earlier this year that said, "Since last summer Sasha has been telling me he would love to come to Hidden Villa again. He enjoys being in nature, and living at Hidden Villa for a week boosted his sense of self-confidence---I was very happy to see that."

Thank you for making it possible for us to provide Sasha with another opportunity to grow and thrive at Hidden Villa Summer Camp.  Your generosity is greatly enriching the lives of our community's under-served youth.  Together we will help inspire these campers to become active and conscientious participants in a just and sustainable future.

Best regards,

Team Hidden Villa
