Project Report | Apr 6, 2011
Quarterly Progress Report January to March 2011

By Sajid Gulzar | Director

Through the baseline survey conducted in the project areas AHD has planned to start a livelihood restoration project for flood affected people in Tehsil Kot Adu, District Muzzafargarh. AHD has also planned a disaster risk reduction to be implemented in the same areas as these areas are prone to flood on regular basis. AHD has planned to conduct risk assessment in the same areas in April and May and we are talking to our donor/partner regarding this. Hopefully, it will result positively and we will start these new initiatives in these areas.

The livelihood and income generation projects’ major activities include vocational training for youth (girls and boys), income generation activities, business and marketing trainings, agriculture restoration activities, model farms, farm field schools, training & capacity building of affected farmers with special focus on female headed households, seed distribution and seed banks at village level. These activities have been planned for early recovery and rehabilitation.

The disaster risk reduction activities include risk assessment in 7 UCs in Kot Addu Tehsil of Muzzafargarh and later disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness activities to build up the capacity of the local communities to cope with future disasters and also mitigate the effects of future floods in their areas. The activities planned will also coordinate with provincial and local disaster management authorities for collaborative work for larger benefit of the communities.
