As violence escalates across the Middle East, Americares is concerned for the safety and wellbeing of civilians, especially in areas where hostilities have displaced millions of people and strained already fragile health systems. In response, Americares is rapidly partnering locally to restore essential health services, deliver emergency medical aid, address mental health needs, and relieve overburdened health systems.
Recent strikes in Iran and renewed violence affecting the Middle East are compounding already fragile health systems across the region. Reports indicate damage to hospital infrastructure, disruption of emergency and trauma services, and strain on medicine supply chains. Amidst the intensifying violence hundreds of thousands of families have been forced from their homes and immense strains have been placed on the already fragile health systems in the region.
Americares is prioritizing rapid, partnered interventions that restore access to essential health care, prevent avoidable illness, address urgent mental health needs, and reduce pressure on overstretched local facilities. Our immediate focus is to support partners in Lebanon. Through trusted local partners, Americares is supporting: Mobile Medical Units serving displaced families; Distribution of essential medicines and medical supplies; Primary health care; Mental health services
Americares is continuing to monitor the situation and plan for additional needs in neighboring countries. We have worked in the region for decades and are already actively engaged through long standing partnerships in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria. We remain committed to delivering timely, effective, and accountable health care as needs evolve.
