Inspiring Hope! That's what we do!

By Jennifer Hughes | Founder/CEO

This week we carried out a food hamper distribution in Nyumba Nyeusi, a community facing persistent and severe food insecurity. The visit confirmed what we continue to see in this area: vulnerability here is not occasional or seasonal. It is daily life.
The households we met are living under constant pressure from poverty, illness, age, and social isolation. Many are surviving without reliable income, stable support systems, or consistent access to food. We met many women raising children alone, without stable income or family support. Several shared that food shortages force daily trade-offs—children eating first, mothers skipping meals, and uncertainty shaping every decision. These are not short-term gaps but ongoing struggles.

Older adults living alone were among the most vulnerable. Many no longer have family support or the physical ability to work. Their isolation, combined with limited resources, leaves them at high risk of hunger and neglect.

Some households are trapped in generational poverty, with no clear pathway to stability. These families lack access to steady income, assets, or external support, making recovery extremely difficult without sustained intervention.

Several beneficiaries are managing HIV while facing unreliable access to food. Without adequate nutrition, treatment becomes harder to maintain and health outcomes decline. For these individuals, food is not supplementary—it is essential to survival.

What We Heard During distribution, beneficiaries shared openly about their circumstances. Common themes included:

  •  Having gone days without a proper meal
  •  Relying on occasional help from neighbors who are also struggling
  • Constantly deciding who in the household eats and who goes without
  • Stretching limited food supplies far beyond what is reasonable or healthy

More than one person told us that the food received today would determine whether their household eats in the coming days.

This short video shares the reality of the communities we serve and highlights just a few of the many families we support through our ongoing food distributions. It reflects our commitment to dignity, compassion, and practical action for those who need it the most.
