A report on our weekly food hamper recipients

By Antoinette Hoareau | Project Administration Manager

Last week as part of our ongoing food hamper distribution program, Spring of Hope Foundation's Kijiji Mission Project distributed food hampers to the elderly, disabled, and the neediest cases in our community of Free Area on the outskirts of Nakuru town. Don't be misled by the name of the community. There is nothing free to the residents of the poorly constructed one-room rental houses, which are either made of mud or corrugated iron.  With the assistance of the Hope Foundation for Change and the MCA contestant Mr. Kinyua, we were able to identify the neediest cases and organized a safe venue for the distribution. Our first group was the elderly. Sadly they have no jobs or source of income. They rely solely on the generosity of neighbors. They were very grateful that we remembered them. Our second group was the young mothers, most of them referred to us as recovering from gender-based violence cases and all have no jobs or means of steady income. These young mothers have 3 to 5 children who are not in school as they can't afford to pay the school fees. Our third group of recipients was our home visit women. For instance, one lady had a tumor on her back and after the operation, sadly was left paralyzed. One woman is suffering from arthritis, which has left her left side completely paralyzed, with minimum movement on the right side. We also visited a home where the lady had developed a wound on her leg which turned septic and she had to undergo surgery, she is healing indoors. She has two children who are suffering from autism. They are being taken care of by Nurses from Rafa Institute of Disability Care students under the Hope Foundation for Change.

They were all very grateful as most had no hope of what to feed their families for the coming days. They asked us to please keep visiting them from time to time. What joy to see a smile on their faces as they receive the food, thanking and blessing the hands that give and praying that you may receive more so that more people can be fed and reached. The disabled too were not left out as it was a surprise visit and they were overjoyed to welcome us.

We thank you for your continued support of our food program. Without you, we would not be able to bring food hampers to so many needy families. Each hamper contains enough beans, maize, and porridge to keep the recipients going for two weeks.

Warmest regards,

Antoinette Hoareau.

Project Administration Manager.
