Summary
In response to severe flooding and waterlogging caused by continuous heavy rainfall and upstream water, OBHIZATRIK Foundation conducted an emergency relief operation from 14 to 21 July 2026 to support vulnerable families in the affected communities across Bangladesh.
During this reporting period, OBHIZATRIK distributed 700 emergency relief packages among flood-affected families in Kurigram, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazar. The relief activities covered Pekua Upazila, Chakaria Upazila, and Ramu Upazila in Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, the organization provided freshly cooked meals to 200 families living in vulnerable slum communities in Dhaka, where severe waterlogging had disrupted their daily activities and livelihoods.
Through the coordinated efforts of its team members and local volunteers, OBHIZATRIK Foundation reached affected households with essential food items, safe drinking water, and immediate food assistance to help them cope with the ongoing emergency.
Challenge
Continuous heavy rainfall and upstream water caused severe flooding and waterlogging in several parts of Bangladesh, affecting vulnerable communities and disrupting their everyday lives.
In the affected areas, many families experienced difficulties accessing essential food supplies, safe drinking water, and other basic necessities. Floodwaters also disrupted transportation, communication, and livelihood activities, leaving many households unable to meet their daily needs.
In urban areas of Dhaka, particularly in vulnerable slum communities, prolonged waterlogging prevented many day labourers and low-income families from leaving their homes to work. As a result, households that depend on daily wages faced immediate food insecurity, with limited or no income to purchase essential food items.
Children, older people, and economically disadvantaged families were particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the disaster. The situation highlighted the urgent need for immediate humanitarian assistance to ensure access to food and safe drinking water.
Solution
To respond to the immediate needs of the affected communities, OBHIZATRIK Foundation mobilized its team members and local volunteers to conduct emergency relief distribution across the affected locations between 14 and 21 July 2026.
The emergency response activities included:
A. Distribution of Emergency Relief Packages
OBHIZATRIK distributed a total of 700 emergency relief packages among flood-affected families in the following locations:
Each emergency relief package contained essential food supplies and safe drinking water to address the immediate needs of an affected household. Each package included one packet of toast biscuits, one packet of puffed rice (Muri), 200 oral saline sachets, 500 grams of lentils (Mosur Dal), 3 kilograms of rice, 2.1 kilograms of potatoes, 1 kilogram of salt, and 5 litres of bottled mineral water. These essential items were provided to help affected families meet their immediate food and hydration needs during the emergency.
These essential supplies were intended to provide immediate food assistance, support basic nutritional needs, and help families maintain access to safe drinking water during the emergency.
B. Cooked Meal Distribution in Dhaka
In addition to the relief package distribution, OBHIZATRIK provided freshly cooked meals to 200 families living in vulnerable slum communities in Dhaka.
Due to severe waterlogging, many day labourers and low-income families were unable to leave their homes, access workplaces, or earn their daily income. Recognizing their immediate food requirements, OBHIZATRIK arranged and distributed cooked meals to support these households during the difficult period.
This initiative provided immediate food assistance to families whose livelihoods and daily access to food had been disrupted by the waterlogging.
Long-Term Impact
OBHIZATRIK Foundation's emergency response during this reporting period provided immediate humanitarian assistance to vulnerable families affected by flooding and waterlogging in different parts of Bangladesh.
Through the distribution of 700 emergency relief packages and cooked meals to 200 families in Dhaka, the initiative helped address urgent household food requirements and improve access to safe drinking water during the disaster.
Beyond immediate relief, these activities reflect OBHIZATRIK's continued commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities through timely humanitarian assistance and community-based engagement.
