PROGRESS REPORT
1. Program Overview
The Food and Nutrition Program supports vulnerable children in the community by providing regular, nutritious meals while integrating child-focused activities that promote health, hygiene, education, personal development, and positive social interaction.
During the school term, feeding is conducted once a week, every Saturday. During school holidays, the program increases feeding frequency to three times per week—Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—to ensure that children continue to have access to nutritious meals when they are away from school.
Target Population
Primary beneficiaries: Children aged 0–18 years
Secondary beneficiaries: Vulnerable children and families within the surrounding community
Meals Provided
Meals are prepared to provide a balanced combination of carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, and other essential nutrients. The main foods include:
2. Feeding Attendance and Meals Served
The program recorded the following monthly meal attendance:
Month: Meals Served
January 601, February 620, March 713, April 1,355, May 481, June 748, and July 539
January–July Total: 5,057
In addition, approximately 697 meals were served on August 8, 2026, during the Kick It for WASH tournament held at Karai Primary School.
Based on the figures provided, the documented total is therefore 5,754 meals through the August 8 event.
Note: The original report states a total of 6,182 meals. This figure should be verified against the August feeding records before the final report is submitted to donors.
The program currently reaches approximately 160–213 children during regular weekly feeding sessions, although attendance varies depending on school schedules, holidays, and other community activities.
3. Child Development and Nutrition Activities
The program conducted 10+ child development and nutrition education sessions during the reporting period.
These activities included:
Handwashing Demonstrations
Children were taught proper handwashing techniques and the importance of washing their hands before eating and after using the toilet. These sessions reinforce practical hygiene practices that help prevent illness.
Mentorship Sessions
Children received guidance and encouragement on personal development, education, responsibility, confidence, and positive decision-making.
Games and Child Engagement Activities
Children participated in games and recreational activities designed to encourage teamwork, interaction, cooperation, confidence, and healthy social development.
Educational and Life-Skills Talks
Staff provided age-appropriate educational information and life-skills guidance to help children develop knowledge and positive habits beyond the feeding program.
These activities have made the feeding sessions more engaging while ensuring that children receive not only food, but also knowledge, encouragement, and opportunities for positive social development.
4. Community Mobilization and Engagement
Kibiko Community Mobilization – July 18, 2026
On July 18, 2026, the team participated in a community mobilization exercise in Kibiko.
The objectives were to:
The mobilization exercise provided an opportunity for the team to engage directly with community members and increase awareness of the services and activities being offered.
5. Kick It for WASH Tournament
On August 8, 2026, the program participated in a community tournament held at Karai Primary School as part of the Kick It for WASH initiative.
The event brought together children, young people, players, families, and community members through sports and community engagement.
Approximately 697 meals were served to participants and community members who attended the event.
The tournament provided an important platform to combine:
6. Key Achievements
During the reporting period, the Food and Nutrition Program achieved the following:
7. Challenges and Areas Requiring Attention
The program continues to experience several challenges, including:
Fluctuating Attendance
Attendance varies depending on school schedules, school holidays, weather conditions, and other community activities.
Need for Dietary Diversification
Although the current meals provide important nutritional value, there is a need to increase dietary diversity, particularly through the regular inclusion of fruits and other nutrient-rich foods.
Sustainability of Feeding Services
Continued financial and material support is necessary to ensure that feeding services remain consistent and that the program can respond to increasing demand within the community.
8. Recommendations
The program recommends the following actions:
9. Oloishorua Centre – Urgent Roofing Appeal
We have walked this journey together for a long time, and despite the many challenges and setbacks along the way, we are now determined to see the Oloishorua Centre completed within the next few weeks.
A few weeks ago, a Good Samaritan generously donated the timber needed for the roofing. We are deeply grateful for this incredible act of generosity and support. However, we now urgently need to purchase the iron sheets and complete the roofing before the heavy rains cause further damage.
The rains have already started, and the weather forecasts indicate that we may experience very heavy rainfall in the coming weeks. Leaving the building without a completed roof at this stage could seriously damage the work already accomplished and potentially undo months of effort, investment, and sacrifice.
We urgently need $4,000 to purchase the iron sheets, roofing materials, pay the necessary labor costs, and complete the roofing work.
I am reaching out to you not only as a supporter, but also as a friend who has walked this journey with us. You have seen the vision, the struggles, the sacrifices, and the progress. We are now very close to completing this important stage.
Every contribution, regardless of its size, will bring us closer to putting a roof over the Oloishorua Centre and protecting everything that has already been built.
Please help us complete the roof before the rains cause further damage.
Thank you for believing in this journey, for standing with us, and for being part of the story of Oloishorua. We are deeply grateful for your friendship, generosity, and continued support.
10. Conclusion
The Food and Nutrition Program continues to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of vulnerable children and families in the community. The program is not only addressing immediate food needs but is also creating opportunities for children to learn about nutrition, hygiene, personal development, education, teamwork, and healthy social interaction.
The continued participation of children demonstrates the importance of maintaining and strengthening the program. As the number of children and community members reached continues to grow, sustained support will be essential to ensure consistent feeding services and expand the program's impact.
At the same time, completing the roofing of the Oloishorua Centre will provide a secure and protected space from which the program and other community initiatives can continue to grow.
We remain grateful to every individual, organization, and friend who has walked this journey with us. Together, we can continue providing food, hope, dignity, and opportunities for vulnerable children and families.
