Project Report | Sep 30, 2011
September 2011 Project Report

By Atti Worku | Founder and Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I hope that you have enjoyed your summer as much as we here at Seeds of Africa have, for after three months of exciting academic accomplishments and creative endeavors, it's now time for us to embrace the new academic school year.

Last year our Seeds have celebrated a major accomplishment - more than 75% of our students are now placed in the top 5% of their public schools.  This school year, we plan to further challenge ourselves, expanding our enrichment curriculum, and growing in new and exciting ways.

Specifically, our students at the take root center will be publishing their first school newspaper this semester.  The Seeds will be researching and reporting on local issues, as well as taking photos, sharing their opinions on current affairs, and reviewing classroom art projects.  We can't wait to share the Seeds Paper with you, so stay tuned for the first edition hot off the press this fall!

Our progress doesn't stop there though; this fall Seeds of Africa launched our first full-time elementary class, as well as our first adult literacy program designed to serve our Seeds parents.  As with the current "Seasoned Seeds", our new students will be enrolled in a bi-lingual enrichment program including math, science, reading, and the arts.  Our adult literacy class will continue throughout the school year, and will lay the foundation for the promoting financial stability and prosperity of our families.

Here in the US, the Seeds team celebrated the launch of our new website and the success of our summer fundraisers.  In addition, we were recently honored to participate in such prestigious conferences as the Dell Social Innovation Initiative at Brown University and the ACRN Conference on Social-Entreprenueriship in Austria.

As always, none of this progress would have been possible without your generous support, and so on behalf of our Seeds, staff, volunteers, and interns, I would like to offer my sincere gratitude for your continued support.

Thank you for making our mission a reality!

With love and appreciation,

Atti Worku
