Project Update - Literacy Skills

By Magdalena Gouguenheim | International Development

Thank you for being part of the change.

In March, we began a new school year, filled with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to high-quality education.

This year, 55 boys and girls started kindergarten with a diagnostic evaluation to understand each child's starting point and development. Most of them began school with limited literacy and poor oral language skills. Our goal by the end of the year is to provide each student with the necessary tools to set them on a successful educational journey.

In this respect we designed 6 main strategies:

1. Specific interventions: We develop individual and personalized interventions for each student according to their needs. This is done with the support of teachers, aides, and the school counseling team.

2. Classrooms as a literacy-rich environment: For example by naming each object in the classroom, using signs with classroom rules, displaying a visible alphabet, etc.

3. Use of multimedia resources: Use of videos and audios, including films and songs, that enrich language development.

4. Family meetings: Periodical meetings between teachers and parents to identify collaboratively challenges and opportunities in their children's learning process.

5. Monthly development reviews for each student: Aiming at a personalized intervention when necesarry.

6. Continual teacher training: Teachers receive ongoing professional development to enhance their educational resources and teaching strategies.

Thanks to donations like yours, we are able to continue our mission of providing high quality, free, education for the most disadvantaged children in Virreyes, Buenos Aires Province.
