Since the fall of 2016, Enhance Worldwide has continued supporting 22 young women and girls in Ethiopia to lead meaningful, dignified lives with agency, autonomy and aspiration!
In partnership with the Kapadia Education Foundation (KFF) we continue our support to 10 young women for higher education. By coupling tuition scholarships with a mentorship program, we are helping these young women chart out a new future through higher education and intentional guiding relationships. All of these young women have entered their second semester at accredited universities or colleges after successfully completing their first semester of the 2016/2017 academic year. Eight of the ten young women received higher marks than in their previous semester. During meetings with their Enhance mentor, all expressed gratitude for the Enhance-KEF support. This support has lessened the financial burden on their families and has given them more time to study. They all said that they are now more confident that they will be able to finish college and transform their lives, increase the well-being of their families and give back to their communities. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
Through our ‘Kinship Care’ program, Enhance Worldwide continues support to 10 girls living in poverty in Addis Ababa. This core program ensures that these girls can attend school, and have the resources and schools to succeed in the classroom. These girls also learn about healthy relationships, how to create lasting friendships and how to play games and sports. They learn important life skills like critical thinking and self-esteem, learning to respect others and how to respect themselves.
Ten girls supported by Enhance Worldwide participated in the 14th annual Great Ethiopian Run ‘Women First 5km Race’ on March 12th. The theme of this year’s race in celebration of International Women’s Day was Because She Can. The race brought together more than 8,000 amazing women and girls from all walks of life. Hirut Gedlu, who is one of our partners from Ethiopia was invited to the run and celebrations as an honored guest of the world famous Ethiopian runner Haile Gebre Selassie. Enhance founding board member Tsion Asmare also participated in the race. All of the Enhance girls completed the 5k run successfully, with 3 of them completing the 5k race in less than 35 minutes. Donations from Enhance supporters provided race T-shirts, as well as running shoes and socks. Thank you for making this possible!
