Educating young Zambians can change the future of their families and communities. We work mostly within a small group of 15 to 20 families who have children with disabilities in Livingstone, Zambia. Most of these families could never afford consistent schooling for any of their children. In 2021 primary schools through high school became free. Now we raise money to pay for tuition at universities and vocational schools, for both disabled and undisabled young people. The family is strengthened.
The families that we serve have always struggled to provide basic necessities like food, shelter, and medical care. Between their desperate economic situation and the stigma of being disabled or from families with disabled children, many cannot hope for a real education. Without education, there is no way to get a job to earn enough to lift themselves and their families out of the endless cycle of poverty.
We seek donors who agree that education is the key to overcoming poverty. It is a very real way to create skills and income for those without means. We seek funds for young adults who qualify for higher education.
When these students complete their education, they are qualified for a whole different level of employment. Not only are jobs higher paid, sometimes they also give benefits which most of these families have never had. The goal of most of the students is to be able to support their families, and many who go on to higher education also have dreams of returning home after graduating to use their skills to benefit the whole community.
