Hundreds of workers and citizens took to the streets in Wau, South Sudan second largest city on Friday to protest against the increased of cost of living, and salary in arrears as the leaders warned the country’s economic woes were reaching a crisis point.
Protesters in Wau city, west east of Juba, demonstrated over raising prices of goods and services, and salary in arrears which they said were not matched by current wage structures.
A yawning public sector deficit, a falling local currency and high inflation have heaped pressure on South Sudan, which before independence was seen as a promising emerging economy in East Africa.
We are grateful for your continued support to Mairo School building project.
At the time of this reporting:
With your money and cash from other sources you purchased 12 iron sheets and a Hand-Saw machine to cutter trees into timbers to help in the roofing the two double classrooms. We are restarting building between November 2016 to February 2017.
At this time, the moody unpaved road due to torrential rain makes it impossible to drive to Omilling project site. The security is not promising in the rural areas due to the following growing political tension in Juba according to UN Mission in South Sudan. The materials purchased will be kept in store. The goods will be transportation to the site once construction work begins.
GlobalGivng Uk had suggested sending two qualified project evaluators from Uk to visit Mairo School building project. We welcome the idea, but we are asking the volunteers to delay coming until December because of insecurity concern. Also, construction activities will be in the same time a perfect fit during their 4 days’ visit.
We are suggesting to oversee volunteers who want to visit to come between November and February which is a dry season in Magwi County, and getting to Omilling will not be a problem.
In the third quarter, we will send you a new field update to inform you about the impact of your positive contribution and how far the project has reached.
Thank you GlobalGivng for helping to build mairo Primary School! you will help the charity better.
