The 2016-2017 Elev Program was a tremendous success. This past year, REBUILD globally was able to provide formal educational scholarships and comprehensive educational programming for our 30 students, as well as providing informal primary school support for 6 additional youth.
The National Exam results came in in late August, and we learned that 83% of our students passed their exams and moved from one grade level to the next. More specifically, 4 of our students took the 9th grade National Exam, and all passed! We are so proud of them!
For the past school year, the national pass-rate average in Haiti for the Senior Year Exam was 23.24%. Despite these tough odds, in September we celebrated the graduation of Rony and Lovely! Because of their successful graduation from Secondary School and the Elev Program, both Rony and Lovely will transition to REBUILD globally’s 9-month paid job training program called the Lavi Program. During this time, they will participate in financial, health and job readiness training, as well as collaboration, leadership, craftmanship and precision courses to prepare them for the workforce, and for a job at deux mains! Over the next 9 months, all the money they are able to save from this training will be matched by REBUILD globally and they can use these combined earnings to pay for their University next Fall. Both are interested in studying Law and Administrative Sciences!
We also celebrated a graduation from the informal Primary School program to our formal programming. Elton finished 5th grade and is now considered a Secondary School Student, a formal part of the Elev Program, and will begin participating in tutoring and Saturday Programming!
This year we have 39 students in total in our Elev Program as we were able to add 5 additional scholarships. Because of this increase in participants, and the construction of our Technology Lab, we have created 2 new jobs in Haiti: a Technology Supervisor and a Chemistry Tutor!
We could not do all of this for our students without you, our amazing donors! Our kids are so grateful to all of you and do not have the words to thank you. We are so proud of them as there are very intelligent and start sharing their knowledges and skills with others. In addition they are truly future leaders of Haiti.
