The beginning of the school year 2016-2017 was off to a challenging start for our students and the staff at REBUILD globally.
On October 3-4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew slammed through Haiti with incredible force, destroying much of our southern peninsula. In particular, Les Cayes, Jeremie and Grand Goave were devastated – leaving homes destroyed and crops ruined. Many of our students’ families live in these areas, and as a result, our extended family at REBUILD globally was directly affected by this disaster.
We are very saddened to report that Kenold, one of students in 9th grade, lost his grandfather in the storm. Additionally, Lovely, Taina, Rebeka, Wenson, Roseberline, James, Betiana, Rose-Carmelle and Charlene all have family members who live in the provinces whose home were completely destroyed, leaving them homeless.
Thankfully, however, with the generous contributions of donors like you, we were able to assist the parents of our students through an assistance program, by purchasing tin roofing, and helping them to support their families by rebuilding their homes. Your support allowed for smiles and hope to return to their faces!
The parents and the students are so happy and grateful about this gift for their families, and their ability to start to rebuild. Again, we could not make such great difference and impact without all of you! In creole we say: "Men ampil, chay pa lou." With many hands, the load is lightened.
