REBUILD globally's Education Program students have been enjoying their first three months of school, including their tutoring sessions and their new classes in technology and computer sciences. We have been off to a great.
Despite happy beginnings for the 2018-2019 school year, however, January is one of the saddest months for our students and the Haitian people in general, as January 12 is the anniversary of the day that Haiti was hit by a tragic earthquake in 2010 that killed over 250,000 people, affected any estimated 3.5 (of 10 million) people, and left many children orphaned.
Our students were fortunate this month to have a group of international missionaries and a pastor organize a memorial event. We gathered together on the REBUILD globally campus - singing and praying together, with a deep appreciation for life, and a respect for those whose lives were lost. It was a supportive environment where our students could grow, stay strong, and receive support for their sorrow as they remembered loved ones, family members, and friends they lost in the earthquake.
We are grateful for new beginnings, and we are grateful for the future of our beautiful country, which lies in the hearts and minds of young people.
