Todos Pela Educacao believes that every child and young person should have access to quality education, directly impacting 47.9 million students and 2.2 million teachers across Brazil. It is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to improve the quality and equity of public basic education. Using evidence-based approaches, it brings together governments, experts, and civil society to promote effective public policies.
Brazil faces historical educational challenges: although access has expanded, nearly 60% finish high school without proficiency in Portuguese and over 90% without proficiency in mathematics. Infrastructure is critical-many schools lack sewage, waste collection, electricity, or bathrooms, especially in the Amazon. Racial inequalities persist: white students complete primary and secondary school at higher rates than brown and Black students, revealing deep inequities in the education system.
Educacao Ja (Education Now) proposes structural solutions to the main challenges of Brazilian basic education. The agenda includes 44 priority measures grounded in national and international evidence-based public policies. How do we do this? Through direct advocacy to ensure that the agenda is adopted through political decision-making and transformed into well-designed, well-implemented public policies. Finally, we work to secure long-term political support so these policies endure.
Todos' ambition for the next 10 years states that, within a decade, Brazil will have: Universalized access to preschool (now at 94%), with quality, and eliminated unmet demand for daycare (current coverage is 37%, with demand at 60%); Practically solved early-grade literacy by age 7 (now 61%, with a projected goal of 85%); Transformed the overall strength of the educational system, making Brazil the leading country in Latin America.
