Merry X'mas & Happy New Year from IDEA Team
We are thankful for your donation and support for our project.
We are happy to share an update report on some of the important activities we have held under our project’ Holistic Development for 300 Poor Kids in India’. Corporate volunteers too joined hands with us in planning, organizing and implementing these activities.
1. Supervised study class .
Ongoing study classes are being held in two slums from the funds received from Global Giving .
The centers run in two batches-one batch of 1st-4th Std and other batch of 5th -7th Std. The center begins with prayer and Yoga . Then an informal discussion on current news/monthly theme etc between the teacher and students take place for 5 minutes. The students are split into groups according to their Standards and the study begins. Apart from their regular studies, various games are used for revision and to create interest in students. Passages are given for reading and listening on a regular basis .
The students in the center are taught art and craft to develop their motor skills and to increase and sustain their interest in the studies. The children have done greeting cards, spray painting, flower pots, ceramic pots, thumb printing etc.
2. Participation in competition .
Children attending study centers are encouraged to take part in various competitions conducted by outside education trust / organizations . Recently three children -Manasi , Bhushan & Rajesh – participated in an elocution competition held in Pune. Children from many schools and NGOs took part in the completion. AND ALL THREE CHILDREN represented IDEA won prizes !
3. Flash Mob Dance.
Amdocs employees & 20 children from IDEA along with Heels academy of dance have performed at two popular malls in Pune , promoting the cause of IDEA . In addition to the promotion of our NGO, it was a very good experience for our children.
4. Exposure visits for children.
Children in the study centers were given opportunities for visiting :-
· A Botanical Garden-Different species of reptiles, birds, animals of cat family, monkeys , tiger , leopard , Indian Elephant were seen and their habitat, food ,physical structure was known.
· Visit to Historical place-Kesari Wada in Pune city. Kesari was the Newspaper started by Great freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. Its working in past and today was described to the children . To see the process of news paper printing right from gathering information, writing, editing and printing was a new experience for the children.
· Bank & Post office-Children learnt the functioning of both the important services.
5. Dental Awareness and Check Up
Dental Care is always at the bottom in priority. So a Dental awareness and primary check up was held for 1226 children under our programmes. The dentists and students from a dental college gave information about the dental structure, tooth decaying process, ideal way of brushing and dental care. Only 7.6%children were seen to have good oral hygiene. They are rewarded with toothpaste & tooth brush as gifts.68%children had caries & 16%children had yellowish stains on teeth. The children are being treated to avoid further problems.
6. Programmes by Corporate volunteers
On 26th October, Vodafone held a mug painting activity for children, it was a real fun for children. Children enjoyed interacting with the volunteers and got gifts & snacks.
Shopper’s Stop employees spent some time with our children in a study center located at Kothrud, Pune. They had fun games, distributed stationary and snacks to the children . Our children had a nice time with them .
Systems Plus Limited, Pune arranged a pre Diwali treat for our children in the study center in Hadapsar , Pune in their office . The programme included :-
1. Kids were presented with a small skit where “importance of study” is portrayed which was welcomed by kids, kids were happy to be in office and big conference room
2. Kids were given coupons to buy eatable and play games organized for them .. this was enjoyed most by the kids.
3. Display of craft & art work of children
