Dear friends,
Greetings from IDEA!
Hope you are safe! We know these are distressing times for everyone around the world, but there is also a ray of hope promising better times ahead. We thank you for your continued contribution to this project, because of which, even after the Coronavirus lockdown was announced in India, we could conduct many activities for our children albeit remotely.
At our study centres, children are given holistic education, the goal is to improve not just their fundamental learning skills but also to give them different useful skills, knowledge, and values through various fun activities. Of course on any given day, our study centres are bustling with activity and you will see a riot of colours and lots of happy faces. When the lockdown was announced, our children were a little dejected that they would no longer be participating in these fun activities for a while but we couldn’t let their learning stop.
Our team regularly calls all children and their parents, first to create awareness about the Coronavirus pandemic, the team asked them to follow social distancing, hand wash, the team advised parents on how to take care of their children’s mental and physical health during the pandemic, created awarness about increasing child abuse during lockdown, also answered parents' questions regarding how to help children in their studies during this time. We also first ensured that all families had at least one smartphone so that we could conduct some online activities for children.
Our team then developed small tutorials and assignments which were shared on their parents’ WhatsApp. The parents made sure that the assignments were completed by the children and posted photos on the WhatsApp group. Along with Math, English, and Science, our team conducted quizzes and drawing competitions.
The children were the most enthusiastic about creating awareness posters related to the ongoing pandemic, which they shared will all their friends. They also shot many awareness videos explaining the importance of hand wash and social distancing. We were amazed at their creativity and are happy that they are making the best use of their time.
Some children made videos showing their love for their mothers on Mother’s day while others wrote poems about what one should do to fight Coronavirus. Our team also conducted an essay competition which was loved by the students, their parents shared photos with our team too. The children though initially found this new method of learning a little alien, but quickly adapted to it. We are happy to hear from their parents that the children really look forward to the e-sessions.
Friends, we are also helping families of these children by making bank transfers for their groceries and essentials. This money is also helping many families to continue their children’s education. We request you to please donate to this project so that the children don’t stop learning during the lockdown and after.
