In rural Romania, education is a daily struggle for too many children. 1 in 5 drops out of school entirely. Half of all 15-year-olds are functionally illiterate, while over 40% can't grasp basic math. Many 4th graders still can't read or write confidently. In more than 1,000 schools, not a single student passes the national 8th-grade exam. Teachers have the power to change this, but too often, they lack the relevant training and support they need.
Teach for Romania identifies, trains, and supports exceptional teachers who bring lasting change to Romania's most underserved communities. We invest $16,000 per year in each teacher, ensuring they're equipped to deliver meaningful education and mentorship where it's needed most. In the next school year (2025-2026), over 240 teachers will reaching more than 30,000 children, not only teaching them core subjects but also shaping their values, hopes, and confidence for the future.
