We've completed our own, new dormitory!

By Hannah Sands | Project Volunteer

The new dormitory!
The new dormitory!

Thanks to the support of local officals and generous donors, we have completed our new dormitory! We purchased the land in August, and began work in November, and finally finished building in March. Now we have a beautiful new dormitory, where 15 girls live and go to high school in Ollantaytambo. This year one of our girls is graduating, and she has been with us since the start of the project! Next year we will increase our size to 20 girls at the dormitory.

This coming year our focus is starting a bakery project that will allow our dormitory to become self-sustainable. Our first student to have graduated, Dina, now attends an accounting school in Urubamba. She is helping us create a business plan for the bakery, and once it is opened she will work as the accountant for the bakery. We are so proud that is has continued to pursue an education post-secondary school, and that she has found a career she is passionate for and interested in. Not only will the bakery allow our organization to become self-sustainable, it will also allow us to expand educational support and opportunities, while also teaching the girls vocational skills and economic independence post graduation.

Again, we want to thank every person who has contributed to our cause, as you have impacted these girls lives and allowed them to get an education. We are so grateful that we were able to build our own dormitory, as we can now expand when it is right for the project and we now have a space that we can grow into. We are so excited to begin work on the bakery project, as we will be able to incorporate the community and offer the girls a valuable experience post-secondary training.
