Dear Friends,
The reports we receive from Radio Meraj continue to be very good indeed. The programming day has increased from 12 to 18 hours and the listenership increases each month. Meraj is now one of the top two radio stations in Herat with some of the newer programs being Technology Magazine, Teenagers, World Travel and Prophecy.
The station is an effective means of communicating information and is inexpensive in reaching hundreds of thousands. People enjoy the mixed format approach of sound, music and talk and call in radio. The station is very rooted in its listenership and community as this story indicates:
I went to get biometrics done for a passport but because of corruption I couldn’t complete this procedure. I was put off for approximately 4 months and every time I went to the passport office gate no one was there to answer me. One day as I was listening to Radio Meraj they had an interview with the head of passport office. I decided to call and talked with the head of passport office and he promised to cooperate with me. Now the procedure is complete and I am waiting for my passport to arrive. We should thank Radio Meraj for helping with underprivileged and deprived people of this society through its programs and helping solve problems.”
Please read our year end newsletter which is attached. Thank you for your support for radio communication in Herat!
