Dr. Yacoobi was honored to receive the 2015 WISE Prize for Education. A prestigious award given to those who are tireless advocates for the right to education. “I know from my life that education gives power, status and opportunity. I see women who are smart, intelligent but did not have opportunity so I gave them that. It is education and not guns that can transform society and give us a peaceful tomorrow. “ Sakena
Dear Friends,
We are delighted to say that Radio Meraj continues to be a success. The station has been open since May this year and reaches 8 districts of Herat City. We estimate there are a minimum of 10,000 families listening in regularly. The population of the area is 300,000 so there are undoubtedly many more listeners than that.
The feedback from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, supportive and participatory. Timor, a listener from Pashton Zarqoon district of Herat called and said, “My mother and my wife are always in conflict about house tasks and affairs. This made me sad and uncertain. But this ended exactly after they both listened to the housekeeping program that instructed the housewives to respect each other and help others to live in peace and enjoyment. Day by day their behavior changed and now they are good friends which is miraculous. This program created a peaceful situation in my house. I thank you for your good programs.”
The station has increased its hours of operation to 16 hours of broadcasting starting in the early morning with 20 different programs offered. We produce scientific, social and cultural programming as well as news and music. Most recently we started or expanded some programs:
Happy Giving Tuesday and thank you for your support which keeps the station running.
