Radio Meraj covers 7 of 8 districts as well as downtown Herat. There are 13 live programs and 17 pre- recorded programs. During one month there were guest speakers including from Herat University, the health department, Herat Union Industries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advisor to the First Lady, the Peace Council and the AIL center the Peer Heat Foundation.
"My name is Mokhtar and I live in a village that has no TV or entertainment. I listen to the radio and have been listening to Meraj for a few months. I like the music and the call in programs. We can speak about our skills, land and any problems we have in our community. Recently, the speaker on the call in program was the head of the health department. I called the program immediately and complained about the problem we have with our local clinic. For example, the birthing part of our clinic was closed during the night and people had to take the women to the city hospital. During the show the head of the health department promised to start a night shift and soon afterwards the midwives were hired for the night shift and the people did not have go to city at night. Thank you Radio Meraj for addressing our problems and helping us."
