Education for Afghans through Radio/TV

Radio Meraj has 13 live programs and 15 pre- recorded programs. The station’s standing in the city continues to rise. Recently the government decided to issue protective vests and helmets to reporters from only one radio station in the west of the country- Meraj. This shows the station is seen as one that goes to difficult situations to get the news, especially while doing  reporting of elections and at other sensitive times.  The run up to the recent elections has caused a surge in interest in radio reports so listener numbers are growing. 

Each month many speakers are invited to join the broadcasts and in one month there were representatives from the election commission, governor of Herat Province, power and electric company, provincial council, social affairs, minister of agriculture, public health department, drugs department and refugees department.  Here is the story from another listener. "My name is Hussain from the old city, Herat. I called to thank Radio Meraj for sharing a problem of our community with the relevant government department. In our community there was a public bath which gave off a lot of smoke and polluted the atmosphere. The problem existed till I shared it with a program on Radio Meraj. Soon after that, the municipality department stopped the activity at the public bath. Now all the neighborhood is enjoying clean air."
