The aim of this project - Literacy & Civic Education is to build capacities of Marginalized Poor Yanadi Tribe to be a better citizen through our Student Learning Centre program for un-enrolled working class poor children and illiterate adults to inculcate the Ethics & Civic Sense along with literacy to this community, eventually to reduce the incidence of behavioral problems, increase recreational and social opportunities to promote positive attitude for a better and responsible future citizen.
Yanadis are a group of semi- nomadic Hunters-Gatherers-Fowlers and fishers, traditionally low caste indigenous tribal people "The Uncivilized". This community is being discriminated socially, economically and lives below poverty line with no infrastructure & developmental activities because of their culture. This community have long been suffering from vicious practices of discrimination. Day by day their living conditions continue to be deteriorated as they lack educational opportunities.
This project is to bring civilization and improve the living conditions by providing education to streamline the Yanadi tribe into the regular education and also into the society. To begin with, Functional literacy along with applied learning activities are provided Viz. Environment, Health, Gender Equity, health and nutrition, Kitchen Gardens to increase the usage of waste land in their neighborhood. Social and health activities include anger management, drug and alcohol prevention.
Our functional Literacy will make 100 tribal understand their rights and enable them to choose and vote the right candidates in democratic decision-making. These members will become aware of up to date information through printed materials which they come across in their daily lives; Gender Equity, health information, community notices, local newspapers, voting papers, or any study materials etc.
