Celebrating first high school graduation

By Jenny Dale | Country Director

Celebrating the first high school graduation
Celebrating the first high school graduation

MAIA celebrated the graduation of the very first class of Girl Pioneers who took a chance on MAIA and enrolled in the Impact School back in 2017. These bold and brave young women are achieving a fundamental milestone in their inspirational journey to becoming empowered leaders: obtaining a high school diploma. Over the past five years, Girl Pioneers have built an academic foundation that will serve them as they step into a new phase with MAIA focused on professional development, transferable skills, and putting the MAIA competencies into practice.

We have celebrated a lot of achievements during this time but we would be remiss if we didn't also take some time to share the challenges we have been facing. You can read more about these challenges in the 2021 COVID-19 Impact Report by clicking here.

Girl Pioneers from the MAIA Impact School challenge the status quo every day to demonstrate the transformational power of young Maya girls. Thanks to the tools and learnings acquired at MAIA, Girl Pioneers are boldly walking on a path to achieve their dreams and build a more inclusive and just society. We are proud to share that MAIA received the .ORG Impact Award for Championing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. You can learn more about this achievement by watching a short video highlighting MAIA’s work here.

We are profoundly grateful for the support of our allies around the globe who enabled us to maintain our focus on the health, education, and well-being of the Girl Pioneers and their families throughout this challenging time. We appreciate your trust and encouragement as we continue to navigate these challenging times while supporting Girl Pioneers to achieve their infinite impact.
