The computer equipment, pictured here, are part of Emergination Africa’s resource mobilization efforts to provide technology access to students in Zimbabwe via our education- technology hub, Emergihub. Thanks to Oxford University’s Department of Computer Science, we were able to secure more than thirty monitors and twenty personal computers that will be used to provide access to the internet, mentorship, and online skills courses for young Zimbabweans. We are inspired when donors like you believe in our vision of advancing Africa’s transformation through educational mentorship and skills transfer.
As we continue working towards fully establishing our Emergihub, your generous support has been instrumental in providing students with access to some distinguished professionals from around the world, including those in the technology and finance fields.
Pictured below, our fellows had the opportunity to discuss careers in finance with professionals from the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Shape Security, and Nike. Our fellows worked with the panelists on various business cases. For example, our fellows discussed a Nike expansion case study, and provided recommendations on resources that Nike would need to scale its operations in 20 African countries. In addition, fellows worked on a case focusing on development finance, and provided high level analysis on due diligence that the World Bank should consider if it were to provide a $1 billion loan to Zimbabwe.
In our second panel session, our fellows at St. Dominic’s School had the opportunity to connect with professionals based in Silicon Valley, and discussed careers in product management, data analytics, and software engineering. The fellows presented a mock case on the introduction of a new mobile health insurance product, and worked alongside the panelists. The fellows went over the process of what product managers do, and how they make key decisions. Fellows further learned about the role of a software engineer and data analyst in the iteration of product management.
