Our Update from Kenya - Thank You Supporters!

By Brian | Head Teacher

Hello Everyone!

It's been a busy few months and I am so happy to share that we have managed to feed over 300 students 5 days a week for the first time in a while. It's lovely to see our children not going hungry and ready to learn.

Results have increased over the last period by around 3% which is great news! We also rent out motorcycles from the school to the local community to help fund our teaching staff, food etc but July was a litlte tough.

I thought I would share with you all what it costs to run a school like ours for 350 primary school children and how your donations really help us...

Income for the school starts with...

Fee's from the few students that can afford to contribute - 83,800ksh

Donations from you 64,000ksh

Our motorcycle rental 39,250ksh

We then had a very amazing donation from a friend of our school for 106,925ksh

A total of 293,975ksh income in July alone

Expenses to run a school...

Food for the children - 130,815khs

Teachers salaries 198,000khs

School rent 50,000khs

So we spent a total of 408,245khs in July alone

As you can see in July our expenses was more than our income, this is normal for a month and this is when as a team we do what we can to fundraise the shortfall. Currently we have overspent with an overdraft at the bank but next motnh we need to raise more or sadly we will not be able to supply food every day for the children. It's a tough decision for us but with July/August being wet season we feel it is important to overspend and keep them fed for as long as possible,

We thank you for your support

Best,

Brian, Headteacher
