We celebrate the achievements of the VITAL program during 2022 in Putumayo, a conflict zone in southern Colombia, which have been the result of teamwork between field staff, administrative staff and of course, all donors and GlobalGiving, who have believed in the cause of providing opportunities for the 2,850 children and young people who have benefited from educational and sports programs.
.
We highlight the scope of the "Life Project" educational program, which was taught on a voluntary basis during the school year in the Ciudad de Asis and Alvernia schools in the municipality of Puerto Asis, impacting 2,500 students in grades 6 to 11.
Many students have been grateful for the VITAL program, since it has helped them to put their lives on track towards the goals they want to achieve and to define the university careers they want to study. They were also impressed by the playful method used, since it encouraged them to pay attention to ethics and moral values, which before this program, seemed absolutely boring to them. Likewise, parents and academic coordinators were very grateful for the content of the program and for the method used in the VITAL program, which resulted in an important motivation for the children to pay attention to the values that are important to rescue, especially in this conflict zone, largely affected by drug trafficking and armed groups. The schools took this program into account in the students' grades.
In the area of school reinforcement, weekly classes in mathematical logic, English, reading comprehension and Christian values were given to 250 boys, girls and young people from Puerto Asís and 18 villages in the "Puerto Vega - Teteyé Corridor", many of whom travel long and rugged distances to reach the schools where they receive classes and soccer training. Parents are grateful for the impact of VITAL's school reinforcement classes in their children's lives, since the education they receive in rural schools is very deficient, and the sports training keeps them motivated and away from the social scourges of their environment.
On the sports side, the FC VITAL soccer club gave weekly soccer training to 350 boys, girls and young people, who participated in 4 inter-municipal, departmental and inter-collegiate tournaments, leaving the following results:
Under 15 category, departmental champions
U13 and U15 categories, champions in Puerto Asis.
U17 category, intercollegiate champions representing Alvernia school.
We have maintained the agreement with Bonner Mosquera, who opened the doors of his soccer school in Bogota this year to 8 more kids from FC VITAL, who participated in departmental tournaments in Cundinamarca, becoming champions in the U17 and U19 categories in Bogota, capital of Colombia. The most important thing has been to get them out of the environment in which they live, where they are threatened by recruitment by illegal groups.
We are also very grateful to George Williams School for the support they have given to 4 boys through the virtual scholarships.
We sincerely appreciate the support of each and every one of the people who have made possible the impact of VITAL in 2022 through their donations and with GlobalGiving for the support they gave us through the campaigns this year, God bless you all.
