Challenge

In rural Western Kenya, many capable young people, especially adolescent girls, are pushed out of school due to poverty, period stigma, and lack of basic education support. Families struggle to afford fees, learning materials, and sanitary products, causing absenteeism and dropout. Girls face added barriers from period poverty, while teen mothers often lack support to return to school. Without timely, dignity-centered intervention, youth risk losing education and future opportunity.

Undugu Empowerment Programs provides education support, menstrual dignity supplies, and mentorship to vulnerable students, especially girls and teen mothers, contributing to SDG 5 Gender Equality and SDG 1 No Poverty. By covering essential costs and restoring dignity, the project improves attendance, reduces dropout, builds higher education, skills, self-reliance economic pathways SDG8
