EDUCATION AND DIGNITY FOR 400 WESTERN KENYA YOUTHS
Project Progress Report, June–August 2026.
The period from June to August 2026 was an important season of learning, mentorship, and personal growth of vulnerable young people supported through the Education and Dignity for 400 Western Kenya Youths project.
During these time, we aimed on supporting young people, remain focused in their education while building dignity, confidence, resilience, and a positive vision for their future.
Our activities reached students both through school-based mentorship and targeted follow-up, ensuring that education support goes beyond school fees to address the personal and social challenges that can affect a young person success.
Throughout the period the Higher Education Fund (HEF) project under it’s key objective retention of vulnerable student in school, with the support of our well wisher, partners and donors a total of USD825 paid for the students school fees.
Mentorship session in one of the comprehensive schools in busia butula sub-county
In June, we conducted a Mentorship and Dignity Session at our identified Comprehensive School. We had a forum with the learners to talk and share about creating a safe space the students and staying focused in school, self-esteem, positive behavior change and menstrual hygiene where every girl received a pack of sanitary and guidance on how to manage her dignity with confidence which has greatly reduced absenteeism.
Ensuring no girl misses school during her menstrual time, each girl gets a sanitary pack and continuous support.
Strengthening education and dignity among our vulnerable student.
During the period UEP team conducted school follow-ups. We visited our beneficiaries in their schools to check on academic progress, attendance and well-being. These follow-ups helped us remain connected to the students and identify areas where additional encouragement and support were needed. The students too felt encouraged and more cared. Teachers reported active participation in class and improved confidence mostly among girls.
Key impact achievement: June-August 2026
During the three-month reporting period, the project achieved the following key milestones:
22 secondary and 3 university vulnerable students school fees, minimal absenteeism and school drop-out.
164 students from Comprehensive School participated in mentorship and dignity sessions that strengthened safe space at school.
Dignity and retention strengthened over 250 girls received sanitary towels and counseling, ensuring no girl misses school during their menstrual period. Girls were assured of continuous supply.
Improved student engagement through school follow-up visits enabled the project team to stay connected with beneficiaries, monitor their progress, and identify challenges affecting their education and wellbeing early.
Holistic support provided: each session integrated mentorship with a nutritious meal, creating a safe and caring space where vulnerable feel valued.
Our bigger Impact.
The greatest achievement during this period was moving from simply supporting students to walking with them. Through mentorship, follow-up, and targeted candidate support, the project is helping young people build the confidence, dignity, discipline and resilience they need to remain engaged in education and believe in a future beyond their current circumstances.
In the coming months, we will continue strengthening mentorship, student follow-up, and educational support so that the 400 young people reached through this project are not only able to stay in school, towards a more are empowered generation.
Thank you to our donors and partners for making it possible for us to journey with young people. Your support is helping us create opportunities where education is accompanied by dignity, mentorship, hope, and the confidence to dream bigger.
