Hand carried 40 tons of boulders

Dear Himalayanlife family, friends and supporters,

Just bevor the onset of the monsoon rains in July, the construction of the sports field was completed. The size of the field is 110ft x 32ft. All the work has been done manually, as we do not have access with bulldozers to the building site. This includes:

Leveling the field
Laying a bed of fist-sized boulders
Pouring 3 inches of concrete over the boulder bed

To this end,

Some 40 tons of boulders were hand carried from the river to the construction site
100 bags (=5,000 kg) of cement for the foundation were trucked in from Kathmandu with 4x4 trucks, and hand-carried across the 300 ft long suspension bridge to the construction site, as we do not have road access
an estimated amount of 60 tons of concrete was hand-mixed and poured

The next steps will be the construction of more classrooms (pod #2) and a bath house with showers and washrooms.
