Thank you for your continuous support to the Community Center in Tzununá!!!. You made it possible to continue some programs and add new ones.
In December we did a big Closing of our Art program at the Community Library. Giving Diplomas to all participants. It was a great success. Many children found their creativity expanding through painting and being given the opportunity to have something to do while schools remained closed last year. Many of the students were very proud of their work and some did not imagine they had so much abilities to paint and draw. The three teachers did an amazing work!!
By the end of December and all January we started our scholarship program, lots of promotion and going home by home to explain how to apply. We had many students interested in the program.
We choose to sent the students for training at Amigos de Santa Cruz which is an NGO that works in a nearby village. Amigos also works in improving the lives of the indigenous people through support for education and sustainable economic empowerment. They have a learning program called Cecap. So we will have some persons that we sent to them: cooking clases and carpentry because we cannot have all the machines needed here in Tzununá. And some clases will happen in our Community Library: embroidery and crochet.
We joined another NGO working in our town of Tzununá, Wellkind to be able to sent more students to the program and another NGO in San Marcos (Utz Corazón) a nearby town to also sent students. This were exciting news!
We have two students for cooking clases, two for carpentry, six for embroidery and 37 for crochet! This is a good start for this year. We might have two more students for blacksmith training, but due to the fact that the minimum of 10 students has not been reached this clases are not starting yet. All this people will be able to have a training that will enable them to find better jobs in a town were training is not easy and finding qualified jobs is a difficult step.
Embrodery clases have already started and we have a nice group of six very entusiastic woman that joined!
Crochet clases start in ten days from now. We have meeting to inscribe the women to the program. For the woman in our town of Tzununá it was very important that the clases were held at the Community Center so they don´t have to travel to another town. Cecap is sending us a teaching we are paying for the training and providing the space for the training to happen.
All students with scholarships will have to do some social work town cleaning and helping with children at the Community Library. As a way to give back and value the support given by scholarships.
Yesterday the inauguration of the Art clases started, we will have the same three teachers one of them is a volunteer and the others ones are payed teachers we share costs with Wellkind. From the great results we had from last year´s clases this year we have more students interested in the program of Art. We hope to have one day art galleries with painters trained at the Community Center.
Thank you for believing in our proyect and for your constant support, this is what keeps us going!!
