We are excited to share another important milestone made possible by the generosity of supporters of Girls With Books!. Recently Girls With Books! celebrated the graduation of the fourth cohort of our Skills for Success program at the Women's Center in Juba, South Sudan.
This program was created to equip young women with practical skills that prepare them for higher education, meaningful employment, and leadership opportunities. While many of our students complete secondary school, they often lack access to the digital literacy and professional development skills needed to compete in today's job market. Skills for Success helps bridge that gap.
Over the course of the training, participants developed essential computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research. They also learned how to write professional résumés, prepare for job interviews, communicate effectively in the workplace, and build the confidence needed to pursue their goals.
Graduation day was a joyful celebration of determination, resilience, and achievement. Family members, community leaders, and Girls With Books! staff gathered to recognize the hard work of these young women as they received certificates marking the successful completion of the program. For many graduates, this was the first professional certificate they had ever earned--a milestone that symbolizes new opportunities and greater confidence in their future.
The impact of this program extends far beyond the classroom. Graduates leave with practical skills they can immediately apply when seeking employment, pursuing higher education, starting small businesses, or supporting their communities. They also become role models for younger girls, demonstrating that education and perseverance can open doors to brighter futures.
Since launching the Skills for Success program, Girls With Books! has continued to expand its reach, with each graduating cohort strengthening the network of empowered young women in South Sudan. The enthusiasm of our graduates and the growing demand for the program demonstrate the urgent need for continued investment in workforce readiness and women's empowerment.
None of this would be possible without our supporters. Thank you for believing in the potential of South Sudan's young women. Together, we are creating pathways to education, employment, and leadership, one graduate at a time.
Sincerely,
Micklina Kenyi
