Shifting fashion curriculums worldwide

The Redress Design Award 2018 finalists

Dear Valued Supporter,

Summer season has begun, and we are in the final stretch of the Redress Design Award 2018 - our first truly global competition cycle. After receiving applications from 56 regions, we announced our 11 talented finalists in May, who are completing their collections as we speak ready for the big show in Hong Kong on 6th September.

As we expanded globally this year, so too have our partnerships with educational institutions grown – we are now working with over 100 in variety of ways from engaging lecturers through our Educator packs, through to collaborating on the development of new sustainability focused modules. Our educational work continues!

  • We recently launched our new guide and video for designers on the topic of ‘Sustainability in fibres’ on our LEARN platform.
  • We also adapted this into a lecture topic which joined new exercises and project briefs contributed by lecturers across the world to form an extension pack for our EDUCATOR PACK , so far downloaded by 500+.
  • This year we have held a teacher training workshops in Hong Kong, China and the UK, with Australia and France coming later this year. These sessions allow educators to share experiences, challenges and successes in introducing sustainability into the curriculum with likeminded peers to further engage them and this process informs our research and the direction of our work towards driving a shift in fashion curriculums worldwide.

In addition we have been celebrating the successes of the now 130 strong Redress Design Award Alumni, and providing support for them as they develop their careers in sustainability.

  • We hosted a Networking Event in June for our Hong Kong based Alumni, who had the opportunity to network with over 30 industry gurus with a variety of backgrounds gaining invaluable practical advice.
  • We also paired up with the Hive Studios in Hong Kong for their annual Runway show, to bring sustainable options to the table and the Redress Design Award Alumni dominated the event - 8 brands out of 9 (Angus Tsui, Absurd Laboratory, Alex Law, Artisan, Tiffany Pattinson, Seer, Classics Anew, and sustainable fashion label the R Collective) proving that sustainable fashion has a successful future ahead.

Your donations have been critical in enabling us to drive progress across the industry, but we are still looking for a small amount of funding to complete this cycle. Please consider contributing to us again to help us on our journey towards a circular economy in fashion.

Many thanks,

Hannah
