It’s been another busy few months in our Villages as our children prepare for exams, celebrate local festivals and perform in our first annual Sally Dean Show! We are so proud of everything our children have achieved over the past few months; their dedication to their education and to supporting each other, exemplify the incredible potential and character they possess.
Zambian Village:
At our Zambian Village the children have been hard at work creating and performing in our first annual Sally Dean show! The show was created in memory of Sally Dean who supported our Zambian Village for many years, and personally sponsored many of our Alumni’s further studies at University. The children worked alongside our Drama teacher, Mr Nyereti, to create the show which included traditional dance, a short film, music and a play.
The show was attended by Sir Richard and Lady Butler, our founders, and one of Zambia biggest names in music, B’Flow. He made a surprise appearance and performed one of his songs and gave a powerful speech to our children. The show was a great success and gave our children the opportunity to express themselves and perform in front of an audience. We are so proud of all the children for their hard work creating this show, and can not wait to see next year's performance!
Indian Village:
It’s exam period at our Indian Village, and the children are busy studying and preparing for their midterm exams. Our children are supported by our staff, and have been helping each other study. We wish our children all the best in their exams. The village also celebrated Raksha Bandhan, a festival which honors the unbreakable bond between brothers and sisters. To celebrate the children prepared gifts and bracelets which they gave to each other as a tribute of their bond and companionship.
Nepalese Village:
In Nepal, the children celebrated Indigenous Day, a day where they celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and contributions of indigenous communities around the world. One third of the children in our Nepalese village belong to the indigenous community, and our children enjoyed celebrating their cultures with everyone at the Village. The children also enjoyed an excursion to Bandipur, where they explored caves and immersed themselves in the beauty of nature and the local culture.
Thank you for continuing to support our children on their journey to become changemakers and role models for their communities.
