Nurse Aide Project. Interim Report: June 2014.
The transformation
The Nurse Aide Project has been off to a fantastic start with your support. We are able to do much more than expected. We enrolled 22 students from rural areas surrounding the Malir area of Karachi (namely; Koohi Goth, Shafi Goth, Jamal Goth, Mansehra Colony, and Korangi). We were also able to recruit 4 instructors, a coordinator and a Principal who have been amazing in their devotion to the students.
These students are in to their 4th month of training and have been making good progress. Your help has provided them with the means to transform. They are provided with uniforms, meals, stipend and transport. We have revised our curriculum, including practical training much earlier in the course. We have also begun working on a new text book with more chapters, more information and much more pictures. This will be published soon!
Many more exciting things are happening. We have submitted a grant application to the United States Embassy in Pakistan’s public affair’s section- women empowerment program to expand this project further and continue for more years. Cost sharing from donations by you is an important aspect of this application. Another exciting venture is a community health worker program that is initiating. It will use the backbone and infrastructure in place from the Nurse Aide project to train community health workers. 26 female and 42 male community health workers have been enrolled from all over the province and classes have begun. These CHWs are sponsored by local NGOs to come and train with us – they have promised jobs upon completion.
In Short: The transformation of 22 young women has begun! With more to follow.
