Summary

Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN) is fundraising to support 3 displaced Myanmar students pursuing Masters degrees in Northeast India. Since the 2021 coup, many fled due to conflict and lack of opportunities. APRRN and Student Support Group (SSG) have enrolled these students in diverse programs. Funds will cover expenses for one year, providing qualifications and increased safety. This initiative offers stability, enhances employability, and may aid in Myanmar's future rebuilding.

Challenge

Myanmar's education crisis has worsened since the coup, with most universities closed. Economic collapse has hindered students' studies. Many have fled to Northeast India, facing uncertain legal status. Local support is unsustainable long-term. The crisis exacerbates inequalities for minorities and rural populations. Limited internet access impedes online learning. Reduced scholarships and government restrictions further complicate education access for displaced students.

Solution

APRRN is partnering with SSG to raise funds supporting 8 ethnic minority students from Myanmar in pursuing their Masters degrees in Northeast India. These students have been forced to leave behind their jobs, homes, and in some cases, families due to the conflict. By covering their living expenses and tuition fees for the coming year, we can provide them with access to quality education, a sense of stability, and recognized qualifications that will open doors to future opportunities.

Long-Term Impact

Earning Masters degrees in Northeast India will transform these students' lives. The program offers safety, enhances employability, and equips them with advanced skills. It improves social integration and makes them role models for displaced individuals. Their education may be crucial for rebuilding Myanmar. This opportunity provides purpose and improves mental well-being. Supporting this initiative invests in resilient individuals and contributes to regional stability.
