Educate the Girls-Educate the Nation-Balochistan

By Mehmood Rind Baloch | Program Manager (BRDP)

Project Title: Educate the Girls – Educate the Nation, Balochistan

Implementing Organization: Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP)

Project Location: Province of Balochistan, Pakistan

Reporting Period: [Insert Period – e.g., July to October 2025]

Goal Amount: USD 246,963

Funds Raised So Far: USD 3,037

 1. Project Summary

Education is one of the fundamental rights of every citizen, secured under Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, which states:

“The State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such manner as may be determined by law.”

Despite this constitutional commitment, Balochistan remains one of the most educationally deprived regions in the world. The literacy rate, especially among girls, is alarmingly low. Through this initiative “Educate the Girls – Educate the Nation, Balochistan” the Balochistan Rural Development Program (BRDP) is striving to provide resources and opportunities for girls aged 4 to 20 years to continue their education, overcome barriers, and build a brighter, more equitable future.

 2. The Challenge

The educational situation in Balochistan is dire and deeply concerning.

  • Only 27% of girls are literate across the province,
  • In rural areas, this number falls to just 2%,
  • 78% of school-age girls are currently out of school.

Girls’ education in many areas is almost nonexistent like a disappearing dream. Cultural constraints, poverty, early marriages, security challenges, and lack of basic school facilities have left thousands of girls without access to classrooms. Even boys face difficulties, but for girls, the situation is critically worse due to societal norms and lack of government support.

 3. Our Solution

Through the support of generous donors on GlobalGiving, BRDP has initiated several activities aimed at improving educational access and outcomes for girls in Balochistan. The project focuses on both immediate relief (provision of materials and access) and long-term systemic change (community engagement and advocacy).

The following actions are being undertaken:

  • Establishment and upgradation of educational centers in targeted areas.
  • Distribution of essential learning materials including books, stationery, and school bags to underprivileged students.
  • Financial support for school fees, uniforms, and food assistance for needy families.
  • Provision of transport facilities for students living in distant or unsafe areas.
  • Community awareness sessions to encourage parents to send their daughters to school.
  • Advocacy with local leaders, religious scholars, and authorities to promote girls’ education.
  • Promotion of security and safety measures for students to protect them from harassment or abduction risks.

Through these combined efforts, BRDP aims to address the deep-rooted causes that keep girls out of school including the outdated Sardari system, insecurity, and lack of awareness among parents.

 4. Progress and Achievements

With the USD 3,037 raised so far through GlobalGiving and local support:

  • Books, stationery items, and school bags have been purchased and distributed to dozens of deserving students across rural Balochistan.
  • Community meetings were organized to sensitize parents about the benefits of girls’ education.
  • Local teachers and volunteers have joined the initiative to ensure transparency and community ownership.

These steps, though modest in scale, have already begun to restore hope and confidence among girls and families who had previously given up on education. Every single contribution is directly helping a girl attend school, dream bigger, and change her future.

 5. Long-Term Impact

Educated girls are empowered girls and empowered girls change societies.

When a girl is educated, an entire family is educated. She becomes the foundation of a healthy, informed, and economically stable household. Educated women are less likely to live in poverty, more likely to ensure their children attend school, and are instrumental in breaking cycles of deprivation and inequality.

This project envisions a self-sustaining, educated generation of girls in Balochistan one that contributes to peace, development, and prosperity for the entire province.

6. Challenges

Despite progress, several challenges continue to limit the project’s reach:

  • Insufficient funding to cover all targeted districts.
  • Security constraints in some rural and border areas.
  • Cultural resistance that discourages female education.
  • Limited educational infrastructure, including shortage of female teachers and safe learning spaces.

BRDP remains committed to overcoming these barriers through persistent advocacy, partnerships, and community mobilization.

7. Next Steps

BRDP plans to:

  • Expand the distribution of school materials to more than 500 additional girls in the coming months.
  • Establish two community-based learning centers in underserved districts.
  • Strengthen partnerships with local government and education departments.
  • Launch a digital literacy pilot for adolescent girls (ages 15–20) to prepare them for future employment opportunities.
  • Continue advocacy for increased provincial education budget allocations, especially for girls’ education.

 8. Conclusion

The “Educate the Girls – Educate the Nation, Balochistan” project represents a beacon of hope in one of the most marginalized regions of the world. With continued donor support, BRDP aims to ensure that every girl in Balochistan gets the chance to learn, grow, and lead.

Your support is not just providing books and school bags it is transforming lives and shaping the future of Balochistan. Together, we can make the promise of Article 25-A a living reality for every child.
