Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank our donors for their support toward the Educate Market Women on Chagas Disease project. Your contributions made it possible to carry out this important awareness activity on World Chagas Disease Day, April 14, 2026.
The outreach was held at Nyanya Market, a busy suburb and urban slum area in Abuja. The session focused on educating market women and community members about Chagas disease, a condition that often goes unnoticed due to its silent progression.
During the activity, we shared clear information on early symptoms, prevention methods, and available treatment options. Many participants had never heard about the disease before, making the session highly engaging and interactive. Questions were asked, and practical examples were used to help participants understand how to protect themselves and their families.
To support the awareness effort, 500 printed flyers (half A4 size) were distributed. These materials contained simple explanations and preventive tips that participants could easily take home and share with others. In total, over 500 individuals were reached through direct engagement during the outreach.
To make the program more impactful, we also provided basic health services on-site. A total of 98 people received blood sugar testing, while 116 individuals were screened for malaria. Those who tested positive for malaria were given free medications immediately. This added health support encouraged more participation and helped address immediate health concerns within the community.
The outreach created an opportunity for many people to learn, ask questions, and receive care in a familiar environment. Market women, who play key roles in their households, are now better informed and can share this knowledge with others around them.
While this activity reached many people, there is still a need to expand awareness to other communities where knowledge of Chagas disease remains low.
Thank you once again for your support and for making this outreach possible.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
