Hello All! I hope everyone is well! I'm writing to share the good work that's happening in Kenya, in particular with the Ngong Project you are supporting through your contribution to Tatua Kenya on Global Giving. Tatua Kenya has 7 community organizers addressing child poverty through launching Community Initiatives that get children off the streets and back to school. Although public school is free families struggle to keep their kids in school. Tatua Organizers bring people together to overcome those challenges with their own resources. On August 24th 150 people packed into in a community centre to launch the Ngong Community Initiative. All present committed to joinin a parent support group focused education. Everyone took responsibility for getting 4 kids back in school by June 2015. My favorite moment was when one of the leadership team members sang the lyrics, "We are going to go higher, with Tatua Kenya we can fly so high, all the way, to the sky." As many of you know the challenge of education in lower income neighborhoods is not particular to Kenya, in the US we are struggling to find a solution for children who seem to be slipping through the system. Often we try so hard to fix things from the outside but we know long-term solution requires the community's participation. We're experiencing that solution in Kenya!!! 274 people have committed to joining this work - which means that 1,096 children will go to school because of Tatua's Community Initiative in Ngong. It costs $200,000 to accomplish this through the traditional scholarship model. Tatua will achieve that same change for under $10,000 - that's less than 10% of the cost!!! That's what happens when you work with community resources. Thank you for supporting Tatua, your contribution is builds local leadership, creates a long-term impact and is a smart investment. Stay tuned for an exciting opportunity to join Tatua. On October 9th we'll be part of a regional online competition and will be looking for your support!
