Elsa Primary School is located in Karmoni, a village just 15 kilometers from Bodhgaya, the birthplace of Buddhism. This area is renowned for the historic Bodhi Tree, where it is believed that Buddha attained enlightenment over 2,500 years ago, drawing pilgrims from around the globe.
In the vicinity of Bodhgaya, there are numerous communities of foreign Buddhist monks and laypeople who have made the area their home. Although the local Indian population primarily practices Hinduism or Islam, they recognize the significance of the Bodhi Tree and often visit to pay their respects.
At Elsa Primary School, the students, all of whom are Hindus, enthusiastically participated in Buddha Purnima, a celebration honoring Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing. They engaged in the tradition of making offerings with flowers, candles, and incense, accompanied by heartfelt chanting. Following the ceremony, the students enjoyed a delightful treat of traditional Indian sweets.
